GRAFFITI

The most interesting graffiti can be seen while traveling. This is a picture of graffiti I took while traveling. They were taken at a train station on the side of the track that passengers are prohibited to enter. Graffiti can be found in the most interesting places. They sometimes reflect the culture, history, group or individual.

ART AND THE HUMAN STRUGLE

STATUE OF SAMUEL SHARPE
The Right Excellent Samuel Sharpe was born in 1801 and was the leader of a week long Christmas rebellion which began December 28, 1831 and spread rapidly throughout the parish of St. James. He was a Baptist Deacon and freedom fighter who paid the ultimate price for standing up for freedom. He was executed on May 23, 1832 for his role in the 1831-32 Emancipation War. He was one of Jamaica’s seven national heroes who stood up for our people in the time of slavery.
The statue of Sam Sharpe was unveiled On October 17, 1983 in the city of Montego Bay to mark Jamaica’s 21st year of independence. The square originally Charles Square was renamed Sam Sharpe Square in his honor. The statue was done by distinguish Jamaican Sculptor Kay Sullivan. The piece consists of five life-size bronze monuments to depict the struggles of that period.

My Self Portrait and Catharsis

THIS IS ME
See me for who I am
Not just that shy person you see when you look at my face
Not just that girl with the pretty little smile
I am more, so much more
Do you see past whats on the surface?
Do you see my stranght as a woman,
Or my heart fragile yet so powerful
See me, for I am more
Aww here in lies the problem
Maybe I should look your way
If I let you in maybe you'll see past that girl who just shies away

Work of Art in Film

GRAND TERINO

by Clint Eastwood

I think this movie is a work of art because of the story it tells and the reality it portrays to the audience. The movies use of both images and sound to convey the emotions of the characters it brings to life shows a more creative side to Clint Eastwood. The movie plays with the concept of human struggles. It challenges the audience to look beyond what is black and white, right and wrong, and see the humanity in all of us.

Apocalyptica - Nothing Else Matters

I choose Apocalyptica"s Nothing Else Matters because the first time I heard the song it evoked so much emotion inside. The setting in which the video was done added so much to the appeal of the music. This is one of the few videos that I have seen where the video and the music completely complement each other. The video is completely instrumental and tells the story of love and unity. I consider this video a work of art because of the elements it uses and because it was created to appeal to the senses and emotions.
